About the Owner: Matty West
Bywater Framing is proud to welcome Matty West and wife Lauren Sloan as its new owners. A long-time friend of previous owner Chris Jacob, Matty is committed to carrying forward the shop’s legacy as a small, family-owned framing studio rooted in the heart of the Bywater.
Matty brings a deep background in finish carpentry, interior home design, and historic renovation, giving him a practiced eye for detail and craftsmanship. Before moving to New Orleans, he spent six years with Doctors Without Borders, working in the field on logistics and operations for large-scale humanitarian medical projects—a role that strengthened his problem-solving skills, adaptability, and commitment to service.
Lauren brings her own creative vision, community-minded spirit, and dedication to preserving the neighborhood character that makes the Bywater feel like home.
A father of four and a proud Bywater resident, Matty is deeply invested in the neighborhood and the community it supports. Drawing on his wide-ranging experience, he is excited to continue providing the thoughtful, high-quality custom framing that Bywater Framing has been known for since its founding.
